Lambing has started with one...big baby!

First,we need to find our spot...

We start to push.

And really PUSH! There are the feet. Where is the nose?

Jerry helps by pulling one leg out and moving the shoulder forward. The lamb slides on out, and he puts him in front of mom. The only other thing he did is clean the nose and mouth of mucus so it may breath.

 12 pounds of ram lamb.

His name (at this time) is Rudy Wood. Mom is Ruth Yeager, and Dad is Elwood Conley.

Chick n' Ewe eggs

The chickens on our farm are very spoiled. When Jerry brings greens home from the store (the 'throw aways'), the chickens get first feeding. And they get Poulin grain, oyster shells and what ever else they can find to eat. And, all 60ish are free range.

Occasionally the eggs are super dirty. Time to change the nesting material.

This is clean and almost dry.

A little Dawn and some warmish water is all it takes to get the eggs clean and ready to use.

    And they are packed up and ready to go to MHT.

 This cooler holds 15 dozen.

         The refrigerator at the top of the driveway got 5 dozen more. Not bad for a week, in the winter time... We get $2.50/dozen at this time. I am hoping not to raise our prices anytime soon. (o;

Happy Friday the 13th

Winter has finally arrived in NH. About 6" of snow yesterday and freezing rain today. So very glad I don't have to go out. Even my chickens are not going out. No interest whatsoever! They have fresh water, food, and some scratch to scruff up the shavings and poo when I go out to collect eggs, and to open or close their doors. The rescue chickens now have a red heat lamp at night, and any day that it is below zero, as they still have no butt feathers. )o:

But, I walked up 9 dozen eggs to the fridge at the top of the drive, and so far there is another 3 dozen in the cooler. There will be more eggs when I go out later to check on them and then to close them up for the night.


AND...I found my scale last night!! That means this afternoon I will be weighing fleeces and hopefully getting them posted tonight.

This is Lillian's fleece. That whole center stripe was removed during skirting.

This is why we shear in January. We are able to see everything that is happening to them without having to touch them. This is Patience's back end. She is a 2 year Dorset and this is her first pregnancy.

These pictures were taken a couple of days ago when it was 48 degrees. Therefore there is mud. The next day it was 33 and snowing. This morning it was 7 degrees and the snow is simply icy.
I am building a movable greenhouse on our deck. It will stay there until I make a spot in the garden for it. I am hoping to start at least lettuces and peas early this spring. And maybe tomatoes all summer long. We will see. The company I ordered my clear panels from missed up my order and did not deliver it on Friday. Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. )o:   I wanted it done before my daughter got here last night, but it was not meant to be. I hope to finish it and get it enclosed on Wednesday. We are using recycled storm windows from a friends father and heavy duty plastic. All windows would be nice. Sometime...
I will have to post a request on Freecycle.

Shearing will start in 2-3 weeks. Lambing will start January 27th to February 20. As you can see from the pictures, most of the sheep are covered. Some of the sheep are test driving Rocky Mountain sheep covers. I think these ROCK! Much better than the Matilda covers that we were dealers for. 2012 NH Sheep & Wool Festival

Yes, the festival is moving to Deerfield, NH.

Yes, I've been fired as the vendor contact, via a message on my answering machine.

I was fired by the committee, who decided there needed to be a vendor committee. Right now that is a mother and daughter team. I feel for them. It is a hard enough job without a whole new venue on top of it all. And without all the information that Shari and I have had. But, I am helping when I can.

Yes, I am fine. I am looking forward to being 'just' a vendor.

No, I have no real answers about anything.

Happy December 1st

This is the view from my bedroom at 7am this morning.

I so love living in the country. I laid in bed for the longest time just watching this cloud change.

It is 32 and the wind is blowing like a banshee. It is supposed to get up to 40 with light and variable winds... At least I can finish getting the yard ready for winter and the last of the fleeces taken care of.

Don't forget to come visit us this Saturday, December 3rd, from 9-2 at the Wilmot Community Association building for the annual Holiday Craft Fair. We will be selling our hand knit wearables as well as our newest line, 36X48" felt pads. AnnieM Creations will be selling her jewelry and her hand knits alongside us again this year.
