Occasionally I get to spin
This is a raw Shetland lamb fleece that I am combing and spinning.
There are some 2nd cuts that occasionally get through.
I am not worried about the little lumps. Once it is plied it won't make a difference!
I just love how combing keeps the colors pure.
Lots of different types of crimp in this fleece.
My Louet combs have gotten quite a workout.
One of the tines keeps getting bent out of shape.
See the different crimps?
This is what I am doing at night while watching TV with Jerry,
and waiting for the computer to download....
As soon as I get comfortable on the couch to watch TV,
I am asleep in minutes. So, this helps me to watch a
recorded program with him before we go to bed.
And, it lets my mind unwind!!
I have more fleece than I will ever spin, so I joined a group on Face Book.
Spin A Pound, Get A Pound.
I have quite a few Shetland fleeces out to be spun,
and I have gotten 3 great yarns back so far.
Tomorrow I will ship out another fleece.
In a month or so I will be taking both Corriedale and Merino
to a mill in southern NH to have yarn and roving made for sale.
In May, I will drop more fleece off with Zeilinger
Wool Company to have quilt batts made.
I hope to have some time off in the upcoming few months
to completely gut our basement and paint it.
That means all of the fleece needs to go out to be processed.
I have 100's of pounds that are washed waiting to be picked
and then carded into either batts or roving.
I won't get anything done if I stay here on the computer!!
I will post updates as things happen.
TTFN!

This will make our friends happy
Jerry has decided we will be here in Sutton for another 2-3 years. Unless of course someone makes an offer he can't refuse!! That takes some of the stress off me! The lower level needs lots of TLC from me!! Slowly but surely I am getting wool organized. Then, I can start picking and carding. But, I need to have some time off from work!!
I hope to get some painting and trim done this weekend. Planned on it today, but I worked outside all afternoon. It is pretty bad when 5 degrees with a Carhartt suit on feels comfortable. I guess it is all relative. We will be back to sub-zero next Wednesday.
We built the boys a small hoop house which we covered with plastic and a tarp. Jerry built a pallet 'box' around the inside of the hoop house for more strength. With the horned wonder in there, we needed to protect the hoop house from his horns. We used 3 16' cattle panels on the outside for fencing. We moved Christopher, a Horned Dorset ram, and Stormy, a Romney ram down tonight at feeding time. Tomorrow, or Sunday, we will move Abraham, a Border Leicester/Romney wether, and Monster, a Horned Dorset cross, down with Stormy and Christopher.
I will try to take some pictures tomorrow of the hoop house and the boys, and get them posted here.

Can I come in?
Our almost 2 year old Horned Dorset ram, Christopher
Our 6 year old Romney ram, Stormy Weather.
She won't let me in. What makes you think she'll let you in.
Our barn is FULL!!! It is 24'x30'
1/3 is mothers-to-be. 2/3 of the other 1/3 is non-breeders,
and that other1/3 is grain/water room.
The center 1/3 is the aisle way. This normally has a round bale in it.
Right now it is housing these 2. The only time they see outside is when we
are home and they can run free. Otherwise, they might be at the neighbors...
Eventually, when Jerry finishes the brakes on my car.....
We will finish the hoop house for the rams and wethers.
They will have cattle panels for fencing for the winter.
This spring they will move in to the fenced in area where the pigs were not.
Where the pigs were needs to be seeded with grasses and soybeans.
We will see what grows the best over there.
Unless of course, we sell the farm first. Then, the new owners will see what grows best.
:)
New year, new cat
This past year was not good for Ewe & I Farm. We lost Jack Black's sibling, Earl Gray, to 'something' from nature. Later in the year, our 13 year old Psycho passed on in the house.
Two weeks ago I stopped at the Wendell Veterinary to see if they had any kittens or cats available. They had a ~2 year old female cat available. She was up-to-date on all her shots, and they had just spayed her 2 days earlier. During the sub-zero time in early January with LOTS of snow, she either got lost or was dumped. The vet's office posted in numerous places about her, but no one responded. So, Cal-Lee Calico came home with me.
Two weeks later, she still growls at Jack. But, not as much. She has gotten a lot calmer, not so jumpy at every sound and movement. Hopefully, she and Jack will get better with time. I just wish that he would pounce her and get it over with.

Cal-Lee Calico is the first calico I have seen with Tabby instead of black.
Jack Black sleeping in the clean laundry.
Isn't he adorable?!
