Look what we saw on our way home from Tunbridge, VT!!

We went to set up our booth for the VT Sheep & Wool Festival this afternoon. http://vtsheepandwoolfest.com/

We decided since it was already 6 pm when we left that we would stop in W. Lebanon, NH for dinner. I spotted this balloon flying south when we on I-89 headed south ourselves. At first I thought it was tethered, but as you will see it was not. I have never been this close to a hot air balloon before. I hope you enjoy. I will post festival pictures in the next day or 3.

We have 2 new family members

2 Jacob ewes came home with us tonight. Their owner's, fellow Christians!, were downsizing their folk and these were the last 2 to need a new home. Another shearing customer, thank you Joanne!, recommended us for shearing as well as a new home for the girls. They are 3 years old and registered. They will go in with the Horned Dorset for breeding later this month. But, for tonight and possibly until Monday, they are in the lambing pen/stall waiting to get used to us.

The other cool thing is upon looking at the registrations I realize that the original owner/breeder is a member of our spinning group.

We will have our own coated fleeces marked 20%, or more, off. I would like to sell all of our 2013 fleeces, as well as my stashed fleeces. Need to make room for new fleeces that will be coming off in February 2014.

Taken 8/21/13. Shows how warm it was going to get today....I don't know how true it is, but the thermometer on the front covered porch reads 98 degrees at 11 am. I need to take more fleece pictures and get them on the blog. It is supposed to rain this afternoon and I will take advantage of that to do all of the inside 'stuff'.

With all the rain we had this summer everything is very delayed!

 Gizmo, the largest of the 3, feels he needs to lie in the feed bucket.

 Everyone needs a pet barn chicken. The rest were picking on her, and made

 her comb and top of her head bleed. She's been happy in the barn for 2 weeks.

 My neighbors honeybees love the ragweed.

I emptied the basement, and what was left in the horse trailer, and set them out on a large tarp. I need to go pull off the top tarp and set it on the ground under the skirting table. It will make clean up a lot quicker!! I will be taking pictures of various fleeces and FINALLY get them posted.

We have a double space this year at the VT Sheep & Wool Festival and one tent may end up being all sale fleeces! $5/bag for small and $10/bag for large. Same price on the fleece blog. The only fleeces not selling at that price will be the ones grown here. But, they will be 20% off the regular price for our 20th year as Ewe & I Farm. Hope to see you at the festival!!

Ragweed

My friend Pam told me this morning what this plant was. It is mixed in with my raspberry plants and my neighbor's honey bees go NUTS for it. I've never seen them have what I would know as a flower on them, but the bees legs were full of pollen. If it stops raining again, I will take pictures of the bees and the ragweed.
In the meantime, this is what Wikipedia has on it. I did not realize there were so many different kinds!
