Upcoming weather

It looks like going to work tomorrow morning could be fun! But, it is going to warm up. Which means we should be shearing our own this week!! At least the pregnant ones. And, yes, I will be taking and posting pictures.

Frozen eggs

I was asked what I do with eggs that have frozen in the nest boxes, or in today's case the egg fridge. In the past, I've always chucked them for the crows. Not today.

Out of 2 dozen eggs from the egg fridge, I 'lost' 5.
The weatherman said the low for last night would be 9.
It was 3 when we left at 4:30...
Cameras are strange. The top picture with the flash is the actual counter top color.
The bottom picture is the actual egg color.
I wash the egg and then peel the shell away from the frozen egg.
They then go into Ziploc freezer bags and get popped into the freezer.
I now have a bag with 2 eggs and one with 4 eggs.
We will either make omelets with them, or use them for baking.
If I was to use them this morning, I would place the bag(s) in the fridge,
and allow them to thaw slowly.

Fleece blog updated

http://eweifarmfleece.blogspot.com/
This is what you see at the entrance to the farm.

This has been full of flowers in years past.
Hopefully, I will have a surgery-free summer and can replant!

Jerry is coming up the drive to the barn with hay.
This is how the greenhouse/chicken house is covered with plastic.
All 4 sides have exposed areas for the air to vent in and out.
Even the door has a corner exposed.

So far, the chickens are staying warm, but not too warm.
The humidity level is very low in there as well.
Every couple of weeks I put more shavings in their barn.
When needed I can easily strip the floor as it is covered with linoleum.
This makes clean up much quicker than the old barn with the wood floor.

Two new additions

Katie, a Horned Dorset ewe and Christopher, our Horned Dorset ram, gave us 2 new ram lambs last night. They can both be registered, if anyone is interested in starting their own Horned Dorset flock. Otherwise, they will be Easter lamb.

We were not sure if the little one was going to make it.
But, he is good and strong!
Kate is another first time mom.
She had her little ones by herself and cleaned them all of before we got out there.

Maggie, my original Dorset/Romney, and Gracie, a Horned
Dorset ewe. They are both retired.

Usually the girls are naked and you can see the bags better.
But, regardless, you can still see that we have girls getting close!
We plan to shear this upcoming week.

With a sight like this, why would I ever give up the country and farming?

Mouse's little ram is trying to smell his father's butt.

A COLD day on the farm

Only a few chickens came out of their coop into the cold.
We were told these girls are Reich's Golden Comets.
They look like Red Star Sex Links to me. With clipped beaks.
Daddy Christopher checks on his son.
The baby doesn't go far from the heat lamp.

These girls could not be lured outside!

Mom, I think I am hungry!

 Nope! I am cold!!

Well, maybe I am hungry after all. Mom!!
Christopher had to get his beak into the camera.

 Aren't I gorgeous?!
Lizzie, one of the 2 boarders. She always has her head in the hay feeder.

I think the ewe in the way back, who is actually laying down, will be one of the next 3.
Olivia, a polled Dorset above left, and Candace, a Horned Dorset,
below are 2 out of 3 sporting the green Rocky Mountain sheep coats.
I am so happy with these coats. I will eventually order more.
